    About the Role

The Apprentice Stylist program at Honey Bel Hair is your entry point into the world of professional braiding. No prior professional experience? No problem. We designed this program for people who have a genuine passion for hair, a willingness to learn, and the dedication to show up and put in the work. You will start by shadowing our Master Braiders, learning the fundamentals — parting, sectioning, tension, and tool handling — on mannequins before progressing to live clients under supervision. As your skills grow, so does your responsibility and your earning potential. This is a paid training program with a clear progression path: Apprentice → Junior Braider → Master Braider. If you have been waiting for an opportunity to turn your passion into a career, this is it.

    Schedule

Monday–Saturday, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Part-time: 2–3 days per week including Saturdays. Schedule is flexible around school or other commitments.

    Compensation

Paid training stipend: $12–$15/hour during apprenticeship. Transitions to commission-based pay (35%+) upon promotion to Junior Braider.

    What You'll Do

    • Shadow Master Braiders during live services to observe technique, client interaction, and salon flow
    • Practice fundamental braiding techniques (parting, sectioning, basic cornrows) on mannequins and progress to live models under supervision
    • Assist stylists with service prep: hair washing, detangling, parting, and sectioning
    • Maintain salon cleanliness and sanitation: sweeping, sanitizing tools, restocking supplies, and keeping stations organized
    • Assist with client consultations and aftercare education as you develop your knowledge
    • Complete assigned practice hours and technique milestones on schedule
    • Participate in weekly training sessions and skill assessments
    • Gradually take on simple client services (cornrows, basic braids) as your skills are assessed and approved by the salon lead

    What We're Looking For

    • Genuine passion for braiding, hair care, and the beauty industry
    • No prior professional experience required — just a willingness to learn and follow direction
    • Reliable transportation and availability on key training days (including Saturdays)
    • Ability to stand for extended periods and work with your hands for long services
    • Positive attitude, patience, and a growth mindset
    • Commitment to completing the apprenticeship program (typically 3–6 months)

    Nice to Have

    • Basic familiarity with braiding (self-taught, family/friends, or YouTube learning)
    • Enrollment in or completion of a cosmetology or braiding program
    • Social media interest in braiding and protective styling content
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
